The British designer Antony Price, the visionary style architect who crafted some of the most iconic looks worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, such as the pastel suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

Price's death comes shortly after he debuted his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in shaping form-fitting garments established him as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as various looks for her American tour following her marriage.

After a career spanning half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

Design circles laments the passing to a authentic original whose influence on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
