Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features several key adjustments:

  • Every squad has only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by real players award full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for players seeking alternative ways to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Support

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while someone else details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Player Input

Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. So this new playlist seems like the player base compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
