Indian cricket star Shreyas Iyer experienced a lacerated spleen and entered a medical center in Sydney after an unfortunate tumble while attempting a catch during the final ODI match versus Australia, according to cricket authorities.
The experienced player sustained the injury on Saturday while catching to remove Alex Carey, with the athlete holding his abdomen and grimacing in pain after tumbling onto the SCG turf.
Medical examinations showed a laceration injury to the abdominal organ. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well.
After receiving on-field treatment, the player did not return in the match, which India ultimately won by a significant margin. Australia had already won the tournament with wins in the initial games played in Western and South Australian cities.
The medical emergency was reportedly "critical at that moment," according to news sources.
The medical representative will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to assess his day-to-day progress and ensure proper recovery from the serious medical condition.
India's next fixture include a five-match Twenty20 series against Australia, beginning in the capital city on midweek. Iyer is not included in the T20 squad due to his ongoing recovery.
