Citizens have assembled across the country to mark 24 months since the Hamas-conducted assault on that fateful day in October 2023, as negotiations advanced in Egypt over an end to the conflict in Gaza.

The incident led to over 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most most lethal day for Jews since the World War II.

Israel reacted by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has taken over 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are considered trustworthy by the UN and other global organizations.

"Our violent enemies have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," the leader remarked on that day.

He also vowed to "realize all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas administration and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer pose a risk to Israel".

Remembrance Events Across Israel

The government authorities rescheduled official remembrance events until October 16th - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still were held around the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the relatives of Israeli citizens who lost their lives in the Hamas attack was organized in Tel Aviv. Put together by the affected families, it was broadcast on Israeli broadcast stations.

Hours earlier, a silent tribute was held around the country.

Ceasefire Meetings in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas representatives gathered in the North African coastal city of the Egyptian city for a second day of third-party negotiations to discuss the conditions of the plan.

A high-ranking Palestinian official familiar with the negotiations said that an evening round of mediated discussions started at 7 PM local time.

The source said the morning session finished without concrete outcomes, because of disagreements over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not restart combat after the first phase of the agreement.

He noted that the talks are "tough and have yet to deliver any real breakthrough," but mentioned that intermediaries are making efforts to reduce the differences between the both parties.

Essential Matters in Negotiations

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The swap of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The removal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies provision
  • After-conflict administration of the region

Citizen Reaction

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square that day, young a woman - whose sibling lived through the incident on the Nova music festival, where many attendees were murdered and numerous more were captured by Hamas militants - shared: "No location appears as home anymore and until all the hostages return none of us will be secure."

"Once we see all home returned, we can feel relief again. Then we can start to recover," she concluded.

Outside the leader's home in Jerusalem, people congregated to demonstrate their backing for the loved ones of the captives. Israel reports forty-eight remain in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be living.

Demonstrator one woman stated: "We need do whatever arrangement required for the hostages to be released. But we truly desire guarantees that we will be safe."

Surveys now frequently demonstrate that approximately 70% of the population desire the conflict to conclude in exchange for the liberation of the hostages.

Palestinian Situation

At the site of Nova festival, mourners assembled to pay their respects.

From that location, the sound of military attacks and artillery could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the intense Israeli bombardment continued.

In the main city, attacks were noted in the dawn of that day in the west side neighborhood, Rimal and zone neighbourhoods and in the east side district of Sheikh Radwan, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwest.

"When the night falls, the dread appears with it," relocated Gaza City resident a mother, whose young son was died by an Israeli bombing earlier, described.

"We are terrified of the bombings. During nighttime we are lying together, embracing, notably my smallest child who puts his head on me throughout the night."

"Every second we check the news to see the situation. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be achieved and that the war will return to us."

Health Crisis

The healthcare center in Gaza City announced it had accepted the bodies of half dozen people by the afternoon, including a trio who died in an Israeli strike in the southern district.

Another medical facility in the southern urban center of that area indicated another two dead people had been transported. An individual was killed by Israeli troops while seeking assistance to the southern area, medics reported.

Gaza's health ministry reported a significant number of the {territ
