Los Angeles Faces Unprecedented High Temperatures Only One Week After Major Winter Storm.

After enduring torrential rains that caused flooding across parts of the city, the City of Angels is now grappling with unseasonably high weather for late February.

Record-Setting Temperatures

On Friday midday, the thermometer soared to 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in the city center, as reported by meteorologists. This exceeds the old record for February 27th, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was recorded just last year.

"Very warm conditions" were noted on official graphics for the region.

Public Health Alerts

The weather service issued a warning that Friday's conditions posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their guidance included:

• Drinking plenty of fluids.
• Limiting outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
• Not leaving anyone unattended in a car.

A Dramatic Reversal

This sudden spike in mercury arrives just after a massive winter storm that struck the area recently. That storm brought heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to higher elevations, leading to evacuation orders for millions residents.

Tragically, the conditions also triggered a massive avalanche in the Lake Tahoe area, which resulted in nine fatalities.

Forecast Ahead

Forecasters predict cooler conditions is coming. The heat were forecast to drop to around 61°F (16°C) in the city by Friday night.

Several cities that hit the 90-degree mark included Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Meanwhile, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were projected to experience the upper eighties.

Over Saturday and Sunday, central LA can anticipate readings in the 80s, with cooler weather expected for the week ahead.
