Devoted followers of Ariana Grande are demanding that a individual who leaped a barricade and seized the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video shows the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past photographers and lunging at Grande while the performers walked down a yellow carpet flanked by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being arrested", though legal records indicated that he was due to be present on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram profile includes videos of him disturbing other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney show in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last winter.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," stated an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Several fans criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented another comment on Instagram.
Several fans also faulted security officers at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while some demanded social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's content.
In clips circulating online, Grande looked startled when she was approached by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Many of attendees had congregated in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore venue, including several who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it began.
The film, to be released on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-film version of the popular Broadway and West End production Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected friendship between two distinct witches.
The musical itself is a derivative of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and received ten Oscar nominations, earning several for excellent wardrobe and production design.
