The German coach, who departed from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback is a possibility. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-year spell featuring Champions League success and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, has since taken on positions in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and as an advisor to Germany's league body.
The club claimed the league title under Arne Slot, but many fans who adore the manager would be thrilled by the notion that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with Steven Bartlett: “I said I refuse to lead any other side within the country. Therefore should it be the Reds...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, that means I could make the decision down the line, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what the future brings.”
Questioned regarding what circumstances must arise to draw him back to the dugout, he revealed he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for media briefings repeatedly each week or constant media duties weekly.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad enjoying conversation, is pleasant. We won a lot of games thus frequently positive atmosphere in the building. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter in my ear to illustrate.”
He spoke highly for his successor, crediting him for the tweaks which secured the championship in the previous season. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in every contest post heavy investment, though he denied the notion it could be a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, excellent performer. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of Jota, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, and the effect at the club. The forward died tragically in a vehicle collision together with his sibling in July.
“Can you substitute a person like him? It goes beyond his on-field talent, it's his character. I can’t imagine the dressing room missing him. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. It was an incredible shock for all the boys too. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it as an excuse yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Coping with it individually is challenging. Unbearable.”
