The United Kingdom Ready to Employ Seized Russia's Assets to Fund Ukraine's Defense

The UK is set to progress with utilizing the entire amount of seized Russia's holdings to bolster Ukraine's defense operations, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a joint statement, the leaders of the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany asserted that this unified step would heighten pressure on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and compel the Russian Federation to engage in negotiations.

They clarified that the decision would be carried out in close cooperation with the United States.

United Kingdom restrictions have immobilized in excess of £25bn of Russian resources since the Russian government initiated its widespread offensive against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. However, until now, funds allocated to Ukraine using Russian funds had solely been drawn from profits and interest generated on them.

Sir Keir assured President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and Germany were in agreement in their goal to drive progress toward employing the full value of the frozen Russian sovereign holdings to halt hostilities.

He stated that more measures over the next period would apply more pressure on the Russian government.

This announcement is subsequent to EU representatives convened in the Danish capital recently to consider employing seized Russian funds for a €140bn loan to the Ukrainian nation.

Recently, US President Donald Trump urged Group of Seven partners to seize or employ immobilized Russian assets, according to media sources.

The total of immobilized Russia's holdings in the European Union is assessed to be nearly €211bn.

Russia launched extensive missile and drone strikes all over the Ukrainian territory on Friday, leading to blackouts in significant regions of the capital city, the city, and eight other regions.
