While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, donated by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its top term for the year.
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
